Like I said in a few other posts, where going to do much, if not all, of the music scene in the DMV. We're consistent with go go, we always do hip hop, we did the club/dance stuff. Now it's time for something that's perhaps more underground than even go go -- DC's punk scene and it's history. DC was an epicenter for the beginning movement of hardcore punk. It bubbled around the same time go go did. There was even a good amount of interaction between the scenes at times, according to some of what I've come across.
Now, I'm not a historian, and I don't have time to do the research to give you a great run down of the history and coverage of the current scene (I'm largely familiarizing myself). So instead, I'll direct you straight to some of the sources that I came across and found to be a good window into what was and now is.
Capitol of Punk has a lot of dope short documentary videos to check out about the history of punk in DC. Check out the Capitol Punk Podcast Videos:
Bannedindc.com has profiles of bands and links to their records. The info is pretty extensive. The site includes photos, a library of flyers that goes all the way back to 1978, interviews, and a bunch of videos of live performances, video shoots, and one or two videos of local news featuresThey also have a blog that seems to be updated (sort of) regularly.
Dissonance Radio in NW on Radio CPR plays classic and new DC rock releases.
Pheer.com has an updated calendar on lots of shows and a good message board that's not just sitting there.
