Potential for Disaster

My first thoughts on this are that this is a really dumb/hilarious spectacle, a front where someone is making money off sensationalism...

On the other hand, it could be that we're all just conditioned to think that DJ's are nothing more than some bamas who stand around playing the music all night at the club/wedding/cookout/etc. Therefore, it seems ridiculous to think that often times what DJ's do requires skills, practicce, time, and even talent while they largely drive the music industry and popular culture at large. And the people who regard DJ'ing as a profession, aim to standardize the terms under which these "professionals" operate, and reframe the way DJ's are thought about appear to be nuts.

My take...

It's a noble idea. If people want to make things easier for dj's, I'm all for it. I dj 2 to 4 times a week. It's hard sometimes to mix and play a song every one to three minutes and make people dance for 3 - 5 hours straight. Then sometimes promoters will want to pay you less than what they agreed at the beginning. Sometimes people will get beligerent and say you suck b/c you won't play their song (which got already played at peak time 3 minutes before they got there). Maybe you'll get booed by everybody at the club b/c a drunk person wants to fight you and knocks the needle off the record or hits the power off. I took the time to learn thousands of songs and how to mix and cut and people think I don't really do anything. So if somebody wants to make things a little easier, I'm cool.

However...

The people who put this together get a FAIL because it's a "MILLION DJ MARCH." LOL. The website says they got civil rights activists to come and everything. The bamas that go probably won't even vote for president, let alone a local election.

Other reasons why this could be very stupid:

a.) the nightlife/music industry is so often such an underhanded business that they can't make things better economically for dj's. Promoters/managers/club people are always trying to keep stuff off the books.
b.) anybody can "DJ" now. Everybody and they momma think they can dj with an ipod now. If i have one more person come to me with an ipod at the club, I'ma break it (why do you bring your ipod to the club in the first place? lol). Or say they got Traktor or two computers or two ipods and they just started dj'ing....This to great effect waters down the idea of being a dj. If more and more people end up getting by being wack, people tend to think that the cats with skills don't actually have any skills or put any practice into what they do.
c.) What did the original Million Man March accomplish?
d.) It's the "Million DJ March"...

They should've just kept this low-key and called it the 2008 World DJ Conference or something. No disrespect to anybody who's going to this. It's okay, but it's just so corny and ridiculous on the surface. But like I said, it could just because of the way everyone is conditioned to think about DJ's. Green Lantern will be there though.

DJs can and will convene on the Public National Mall. There is nothing stupid or obtrusive about having a day for a group of people that have no rights.

hahaha this post actually made me laugh out loud. I'd looking forwards to the Million Hype-Man March tho. That shit would be the loudest, most intense rally ever.

MDM/A. Shaw: "a group of people that have no rights...."

...uh, DJ's, as long as they're US citizens, have plenty of rights. the point of the march is to push to standardize the industry so they can have some standards to work under and get more rights. And that does sound funny. I'd like to see some positive results come from it though.
