Where is a good place for a young couple living in the Washington DC metropolitan area?
Just out of college. Working within federal government, a high school teacher. Thanks in advance. EDIT: she does not want to teach the city center. Are there any neighborhoods where schools are not Inner City-like?
I suggest that Arlington, Virginia, which is much more than a suburb of DC. The metro takes you in Washington DC in just 15 minutes, OT, you can walk right across the bridge Georgetown key. Arlington schools stand out – among the best in the nation, and pay very well too. Arlington offers a range of accommodation options, ranging from apartments to houses through small houses. Moreover, the crime rate is much, much smaller than DC proper. There is much to do for young singles also – Much of the DC nightlife moved to Arlington, especially the neighborhoods of Clarendon, Ballston and Virginia Square, along the subway route. Many ethnic restaurants interesting, more water to meet many young singles and married. Many of biking, jogging and hiking trails. tax rate is lower than government in most other regions, and local usually gets high marks for the quality of its service to taxpayers. Arlington is working to "green" and even purchased a small fleet of Prius hybrid cars for official use by county employees. In short, a good place to live! The downside is that housing is expensive but the advantage is that the housing market has remained strong compared to the rest of the nation, so if you decide you can afford to buy instead renting a house, should be a good investment.
