Traveling across the United States?

As a first step in my journey around the world after diploma in July, plan to spend 5 weeks in the United States. I started in Boston, as have some friends there and plan on getting 30 National Day Pass Amtrak so I can do around and finally Los Angeles, where they fly. I made a tentative schedule of where I could get by reading the train schedules as possible, but I do not know how long they spend on each place. I am me and I'm looking mostly for sites and nightlife. Someone can recommend that the cities I visited in this kind of weather? I think that places like Miami I can leave to another room, because it's so far. To date, the plan is: Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Virginia Beach, Charlotte, Atlanta, Birmingham, New Orleans, Memphis, Chicago, Kansas City, Oklahoma City, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, El Paso, Palm Springs, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Los Angeles. Thanks Dave

I found that, depending on how a smooth ride you want, you can see most of the major attractions in any city in about two to two and half days. I live in San Antonio, unless you go to a major theme parks (Sea World or Six Flags Fiesta Texas) probably can be done in San Antonio in about a day. And honestly, I really do not think there's much to see in Oklahoma City. If it were me, I could jump to Oklahoma for the cost of a day in New York, Philadelphia or DC. My family and I spent eight days in Washington DC, a few summers ago and did not see most of it, so plan some more time there.
