What are the fees and charges for the purchase of a car in Washington, DC?
I am a DC resident is preparing to buy a new car MD (no car dealer in DC) that register the car in DC for me. So I know I'm not getting ripped off, I'm trying to include all taxes and fees, which will be charged. I looked at the DC DMV website, but lists a bunch of fresh and does not tell you which ones apply to the purchase of a new car. Can anyone give me a list of fees and charges should I expect to pay? My biggest question: Is sales tax and excise taxes in this situation the same?
Number of sales and excise taxes are very different. You must pay sales tax, then follow the program at: http://dmv.washingtondc.gov/info/feerequirementsVR1.shtm to determine the rate of vehicle registration. Good luck. Hope this helps.
