In 2004, George W Bush has formally dedicated on Memorial National World War II in Washington DC. The Memorial of World War II is unique because it is designed not only pay tribute to the millions who served in the war directly but also indirectly by supporting the war effort from home. A wide range of experience of the Second World War is represented, either directly or through symbolism. the spirit of the general concept is to honor the sacrifice, courage and dedication of all those who have served the cause of justice and freedom in one of the most characteristic of the 20th century.

In looking design monument, a national contest was held, and Friedrich St. Florian, an Austrian-American, submitted the winning design. Squares, arches, columns and a fountain, all imbued of symbolism include current contact respectful memorial. A semicircle of granite columns, each over 17 feet high, near the main square. Each pillar is inscribed with the name of a state or U.S. territory, recognizing that each region had sacrificed the country.

The two arches that face each other in the square are engraved the word "Pacific" or "Atlantic". Each area was designed to represent and honor the experience of war as was either the Atlantic or the Pacific theater. Other sectors show images taken from historical photographs and details of all persons taking the oath of serve in the army for the celebrations of return.

World War II Memorial is located near the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial on the Mall National. Visitors may at any time chosen for this monument is open to the public 24 / 7, however, as moving as this monument is unique, the most important of these experiments was found on the road. If you go to Washington DC and then make sure you take time to see a monument that reminds the Americans faithfully answered the call for freedom and honor.
