Washington, DC – New York Ave, postcode 20,002: Is it a safe neighborhood?
I go to a hearing in a couple of weeks, held in Atlas Performing Arts Center, staying at the Howard Johnson Express to a mile away. I'll be there for me, (I am a Women 18 years of age white) and I have no idea what the area is. Is it safe to walk by myself? Any information would be greatly appreciated!
The Atlas Performing Arts Center is located in a black neighborhood that historically has had its share of problems since the riots of 1960. While the district is currently undergoing gentrification with satisfaction Atlas opening in an old cinema and opening Restaurnts many relatives, I am not convinced that it is not safe to walk freely in, especially at night. The hotels in New York Avenue have poor reputations. Some of them were used as wellness hotels, others activtes diverse as illegal prostitution. Although I have no personal knowledge with the Howard Johnson Express, I just checked the website Trip Advisor and found that 17 notice appears in all were negative – some very nice! The opinion is not at all a safe place to stay, especially for an unaccompanied woman. Please look at the comments – the address is below. My suggestion is that if the low price is your goal, staying in a motel or hotel of the fence in the suburbs such as Arlington, Alexandria and Falls Church, Virginia. If you have a car with you, the exact location does not matter.
