I take my child to DC for the weekend. Let green – for all public transport. Comments?
With all the excitement the next election, my 9 year old son is suddenly very interested in the democratic process and learning the history of U.S. policy. It is a big fan of Barack Obama and do vote watches bowl with us! I thought it would be great to bring to Washington, DC (we live in New York) and visit the usual tourist sites and learn something, because of the fun. Since we hope will not result in finding a hotel that used to break the bank and is close enough for us to attractions riding a bus or train – we do not mind a long journey, if we can get to a store or at the station quite easily from the hotel. I also looking for suggestions on Restaurants For Kids and what sites are the moments that are well fail. All suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks:)
Us stay in Rosslyn (Arlington, VA) at the Holiday Inn. The hotel is only a block from the subway station and a quick ten minute trip Smithsonian Stop. The location is ideal b / c he was out of DC, the price was good. It was about $ 100 per night in February. (Incidentally, the hotel has an indoor pool and free parking – it was a advantage for us). A great restaurant on foot is the Cafe de Santa Fe The food was delicious (with a kids menu) and the service is friendly. In areas frequented by going … The Museum History Nature is amazing. My kids loved the dinosaurs (of course) and rock halls of most minerals. There was a hand "discovery" piece allowing them to touch the skulls, rocks, look through microscopes, etc. Air & Space Museum was another success. Rockets, planes … All larger than life. My child has learned about Picasso, Monet, Van Gogh, etc, in the arts category, so we had fun through the National Gallery of Art. I could see how it could not be a good option for all children, but it deserves a chance. There are some real works of art, and since he came free, you can always try for a hour, then click the air and space around the mall. We were the Jefferson Memorial (a long walk from the subway), the Lincoln Memorial (most likely), War Memorial Vietnam Memorial Korean War Memorial World War II – all have was very exciting. My children have enjoyed, but not stay too time in any of them. Arlington National Cemetery is another good choice. It's so exciting to see all these headstones. Discover the changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier. The Marines' Iwo Jima Memorial in Arlington, too, but might be a bit too far to walk from the Metro station. I've heard good things about the Zoo, International Spy Museum and National Geographic Explorers Hall, but we're not there yet. We just went through the White House, the Capitol and the Supreme Court was right for this trip – perhaps we will try to visit next time … Enjoy your "green" travel.
