DC trip should see?

no one in Washington DC and found a place not always in a travel book, but he liked (apart from the roads trite or simply unknown)? something Resaurants have loved you, cool boutiques, interesting museums? Our family of 4 (kids 15 and 13) will be in October during one weeks

So you have a travel book and know all the standard sites? Here are some that are a little less than usual. Museums: Lincoln House old soldier's home – located on the north end of town is where the family of Lincoln (and four other presidents) has spent time in the summer, before the helicopter from Camp David. Located on a hill with a good breeze. Tour the museum and just opened this year and is a fantastic tour, and there is much to be done, many interactive exhibits. Good for children. This A number of important sites of the National Park Service in the city. Two that are less known, but important for African-American history are the Frederick Douglass Home in Anacostia (you can safely get on the subway and bus) and Mary McLeod Bethune House. And if occasionally out in the Lincoln Park and see the statue dedicated to him. Walking back through the neighborhood and beautiful fantasy of Capitol Hill, or south to the farmer's market in this market. The National Cathedral (Gothic) National Sanctuary (Byzantine) and the National Islamic Center (Islamic) are three worship places with incredible architecture, are of great interest. There is a great view of the cathedral, if the day is beautiful. Women must cover their heads and dress modestly for the Islamic Center. Check the least known of the Smithsonian museums. For example, the Freer and Sackler Galleries of Asian Art, the Museum of African Art. It's big, but the National Museum of the American Indian is my favorite Smithsonian Museum, fascinating, with a fantastic Multimedia Presentation View, gift shops and the best museum restaurant in Washington. While it is a cheap and busy, the Spy Museum is fascinating and really suitable for teenagers. And as we go a little beyond the regular museum, do not skip the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. We take our children (the youngest 15) when we visited in Germany (in preparation for the visit to Auschwitz in Poland and Buchenwald.) It is moving and insightful, and helps children understand an event which is actually increasingly abstract as the survivors die. Enjoy some of the neighborhoods where food can also be very had and where the views of district are available as part of Cultural Tourism DC. Shaw / U Street Jazz is the capital of Washington, you can eat at Ben's Chili Bowl, a Washington institution, opposite the station, visit the African American Civil War Memorial and Museum and hear live jazz in the bohemian caverns of the night. You can go to Adams Morgan, a multi-ethnic, diverse neighborhood, eat at Lauriol Plaza Mexico, or better yet, try the kitchen or Fasika Meskerem Ethiopian and explore a new way of eating. There are tons of fascinating shopes here and in the area of Dupont Circle. You can visit Chinatown, close to shopping and tons of cheap restaurants around the world (only in Chinatown is its latest incarnation – this neighborhood has hosted German and Italian immigrants to the Chinese). The neighborhood is the Theater District of Washington Penn also (at 7 and D) point at half price. You can take your family to do something at half price at the Kennedy Center. There are a number of museums that house will be interesting. Decatur House is on Lafayette Square near the White House, the oldest stone building in Georgetown is more than a high Hillwood Museum and Gardens, near the Van Ness Metro station. Marjorie Merriweather Post lived here in spring and autumn, and transformed the house into a museum many of his Russian and French. artifacts and the gardens are exquisite. Over the years, millions of kids have been dragged to Washington to see the grand edifices and historic monuments of our country’s capital, and most of those millions have returned home without the desire to ever see a statue, senator, or Supreme anything ever again.
